Looking, Seeing, Understanding ...

Jane Cowles

Have you every looked at something - an object you see everyday and noticed that you were missing what makes it truly unique? In that moment,  you wonder how you had missed it all along. Suddenly that something is no longer just an object in the background, it is something you can converse with. The dialogue you create with this object is your own and you have this desire to express your understanding of it. Perhaps no one will understand, and some might even think you have lost your mind to become so enrapt with an ordinary object, but you don’t care because this way of seeing is what motivates you to create.

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”  ~ The Little Prince
